Houd een oogje in het zeil voor hun happy hours en thema-avonden, zoals vrouwen-only zaterdagen. U vindt vriendelijke locals, een paar buitenlanders en een ontspannen sfeer die perfect is om te ontspannen of om van leuke muziek te genieten.

Dorobune is a spacious women-only bar in Shinjuku Ni-chome. It was created as a comfortable meeting place for sexual minority women, although all women are welcome. There’s a long counter, several tables, food, and a strong selection of plum wine and sake.

Staff are known for being welcoming to overseas visitors, making Dorobune a good choice if you’re new to Tokyo’s lesbian scene.

Ellevie is a tiny lesbian bar tucked beside LAGOON in Shinjuku Ni-chome, reached via a narrow staircase and seating only around 15 people. Most customers are local Japanese women, which gives visitors a chance to experience a more neighbourhood-style bar rather than a tourist-filled venue.

Some staff speak English, and international guests regularly mention how warmly they’re included in conversation.

LAGOON is a women-only bar in Shinjuku Ni-chome. The owner, Aki, is especially good at getting people talking, so solo visitors rarely stay solo for long. She's actually quite popular for setting people up!

The narrow counter fills quickly, so arriving early is smart if you want a seat. Blue lighting and tropical décor give the tiny space plenty of character, and the bar is completely non-smoking.

ADEZAKURA is a lively LGBTQ+ bar in Shinjuku Ni-chome and the sister venue to agit. Music plays across different genres, the crowd mixes locals with international visitors, and English-speaking staff make it easy for travellers to join in.

Its signature drink is the “Tequila Shoot”, served from a syringe-style dispenser. On weekends, expect the sociable crowd to spill out around the entrance.

BAR Five is a small lesbian bar in Shinjuku Ni-chome that works particularly well for first-timers who prefer somewhere intimate rather than crowded. There are only a handful of seats, and the bar has a strong reputation for well-kept, finely poured beer.

English is limited, so knowing some Japanese or visiting with a Japanese-speaking friend will make conversation much easier.

DIAMOND HOLIC is a women-only lesbian and bisexual shot bar in Shinjuku Ni-chome with no cover charge. This spot is popular with solo visitors and first-timers in the area because of the friendly atmosphere. The owner and staff make a point of starting conversations rather than leaving newcomers on their own.

Unlike more tightly seated snack bars, guests can also move around and mingle with other customers.

Queendom Tokyo is one of the newer sapphic bars in Shinjuku Ni-chome, spread across multiple floors with a very different feel on each. The third floor has DJs, dancing and girl performers, while the fourth floor is designed for sitting back, chatting and taking a breather.

There’s also a rooftop, regular weekend events and a dedicated smoking area. This is QUEEN Tokyo's sister bar. 

Ajara is a small lesbian wine bar in Shinjuku Ni-chome. With around 15 counter seats, it has more of a food-and-wine focus than many of the neighbourhood’s drinking spots. Alongside a good wine selection, there’s a compact food menu and other drinks available.

Bar Urue made history as Ikebukuro’s first lesbian bar when it opened in 2013. It remains a small, friendly neighbourhood bar with drinks from around ¥700, food, and a crowd that tends to look out for newcomers. Staff may use translation apps to chat with foreign guests, so even visitors with very little Japanese often find it an easy and welcoming place to settle in.
